Human Protoparvovirus DNA and IgG in Children and Adults with and without Respiratory or Gastrointestinal Infections

Three human protoparvoviruses, bufavirus (BuV), tusavirus (TuV) and cutavirus (CuV), have recently been discovered in diarrheal stool. BuV has associated with diarrhea CuV cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, but there are hardly any data for TuV or stool respiratory samples. Hence, using qPCR IgG enzyme immunoassays, we analyzed 1072 stool, 316 445 serum plasma samples from 1098 patients without gastroenteritis (GE) respiratory-tract infections (RTI) Finland, Latvia Malawi. The overall CuV-DNA prevalences ranged between 0–6.1% among our six patient cohorts. In DNA was significantly more prevalent GE above rather than below 60 years of age (5.1% vs 0.2%). stools Latvian Malawian children compared Finnish children. 10/11 DNA-positive adults 4/6 GE, no known causal pathogens were detected. Interestingly, the first time, observed two nasopharyngeal aspirates RTI rare adults. Our results provide new insights on occurrence protoparvoviruses different countries.
